Naloxone (Narcan) is an emergency medical treatment used to reverse the effects of a known or suspected opiate overdose. Naloxone is to opioid overdoses as a fire extinguisher is to fires. Both products can be lifesaving and are important to have in the case of an emergency. Naloxone gives the individual another chance at life and recovery.
When Naloxone is administered, ALWAYS CALL 911.
Natick observes the Good Samaritan Law, which provides immunity from prosecution for possession of a controlled substance if a person seeks medical assistance for someone experiencing a drug-related overdose.
Many physicians are now prescribing Naloxone along with their patients’ opioid prescriptions just in case an accidental overdose occurs.
Local organizations that would like their staff trained in overdose prevention and Naloxone administration can request a training through the Natick Health Department.
Naloxone can be obtained from the following pharmacies in Natick without a prescription from a physician. Costs may vary depending on your insurance.
Free training and Naloxone distribution for individuals with a history of opioid misuse and their families. Funded by the MA Department of Public Health.
